Buckner resident describes house fire, asks council for temporary motorhome hookup

Stephen Day, a Buckner resident, told the council he recently experienced a sudden attic fire at his home and said his on-the-spot actions helped limit damage.
"My name is Stephen Day and we recently had a fire at my home," he said during the public-comment portion, describing breakers tripping, attic flames, and using extinguishers to slow the fire until firefighters arrived. He said he rescued pets and credited a firefighting response that ultimately suppressed the blaze.
Day said his family is currently living in temporary lodging and requested emergency, temporary permission to park a 30-foot travel trailer on his property and hook it up to power and water while the house is rebuilt, a process he said may take about six months. He expressed concern about security and theft of unattended trailers and asked for council flexibility to allow the temporary hookup.
Council and staff offered to review the applicable ordinance and suggested the board could issue temporary approval subject to final staff sign-off; staff said they would look at the municipal code and return guidance. The council did not take a formal vote on a permit at the meeting.
