District reports positive safety audit at Castle North and a rise in nonresident transfers

Dr. Walter Lambert reported to the board that a recent safety audit of Castle North Middle School, conducted by the Office of School Safety, was largely positive and produced only a few corrective items.
"He sent us a nice letter today saying we're signed off on everything and so we no further action beyond that," Dr. Lambert said, describing the auditor's closing communication while noting the district must update hazardous-material locations on maps and ensure MSDS sheets are available to first responders.
The Office of School Safety, Dr. Lambert said, has moved under the Department of Homeland Security and the audit took several hours; the auditor, Dr. Chad Cruz, reviewed building policies, plans and physical measures. District leaders thanked building staff, Castle North's principal team and the local fire chief for coordination and said they would provide chemical-location maps and MSDSs to local fire departments.
Dr. Lambert also presented enrollment-transfer numbers: "We are sitting at 317 right now. That is up 98 from last year," he said, noting 330 nonresident applications were received but some applicants did not meet attendance or documentation requirements. He added the district had 626 intracorp transfers (students transferring between district buildings) and cautioned that some seat guarantees for nonresidents might not be finalized until the start of the school year.
Board members asked staff to apply the audit fixes systemwide and to share hazardous-material information with emergency partners; district staff confirmed they have an established partnership with local fire departments and will provide the requested documentation.
