Madeira council approves transportation, budget and chamber funding resolutions

The council also approved an amendment to the Duke Energy Ohio lighting service agreement tied to the Miami Avenue streetscape project (Resolution No. 36-26) that will credit the city for certain materials costs and pass any credit through to ODOT and the project vendor, according to city staff.
The Madeira Chamber of Commerce requested city funding for 2026 activities; council approved Resolution No. 37-26 authorizing the city manager to execute an agreement to provide that funding following a brief presentation by David Peterson of the Chamber.
Roll-call votes were recorded on multiple items. The motion that approved the agenda package (including Resolutions 33-26, 34-26 and 35-26) was made by Kaity Rowe, seconded by Chad Shaffer and carried 5-0-1, with Dr. Jodi Whitted abstaining. The Chamber funding resolution passed on a motion by Mayor Tom Henning, second by Dr. Alicia Camper and carried 5-0-1 with Logan Junger abstaining. Resolution No. 36-26 regarding Duke Energy was approved on a motion by Dr. Camper, second by Dr. Whitted; Chad Shaffer recused from discussion and the roll-call on that item.
What the actions mean: the STBG application is a standard step to seek federal/state transportation dollars through the OKI council; the appropriation amendment adjusts the city's 2026 spending authority (details in the formal ordinance file); the payment to ODOT advances the Shewango Way Safe Routes to School sidewalk work; and the Duke Energy amendment is intended to resolve a conduit/materials installation conflict and preserve project schedules by processing a vendor credit.
