The Koochiching County Board handled a package of routine but formal actions May 26, approving personnel notices, permits, a lease and contract housekeeping items.
Personnel: The board accepted the resignation of Maya Gilbertson (E911 dispatch/corrections officer) effective May 21 and authorized recruitment; it approved seasonal highway hires (Aiden June, Thatcher Jacobson, Ethan Barnett, Landon Basaraba) and a transfer station hire (Charles Phillips); it approved Daniel Hanson for a combined treasurer/assessor clerk position (starting May 26) and confirmed the promotion of Shane Thramer from part‑time to full‑time deputy (effective June 5). The board also approved backfill and temporary coverage for a services accounting position following the resignation of Alicia Butress.
Facilities and permits: The board approved a five‑year lease for the Veterans Service Office at 1322 Third Street in International Falls with monthly rent of $1,250 (utilities included) and a 90‑day out clause; it approved an LG220 exempt raffle permit for the Rainy River Community College Foundation raffle scheduled June 25 at Thunderbird Lodge; and it approved holding an employee appreciation barbecue Aug. 5 at Smokey Bear Park (estimated total cost about $600).
Finance and contracts: The board approved claims for courthouse, highway and public health, approved voiding a $450 warrant so it could be reissued as three checks, and authorized a change order to the Tetra Tech contract (see separate story) to prepare bid documents for landfill closure. Land and forestry staff reported timber auction results from May 6 (31 tracts sold, roughly 27,500 cords, auction receipts near $800,000 and a grand total just over $1 million) as an informational item.
All routine motions reported here were approved by the board, generally by unanimous votes recorded in the meeting.
