The Koochiching County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously May 26 to adopt an updated project list for the countywide local option sales tax for transportation and authorized county officials to sign related documents.
County Engineer Frank presented the resolution and said the change is administrative: an updated list of projects to be funded by the existing 1/2‑percent county sales tax that the board adopted in 2021 and began collecting April 1, 2022. The resolution cites Minnesota Statute 297A.993 as the enabling authority for a countywide transportation sales tax.
Frank said the resolution does not establish a prioritization order for projects; it updates which projects may be funded and directs the county administrator to certify continuation of the tax with the Minnesota Department of Revenue. The board recorded the motion and approved the resolution 5–0.
The resolution and the updated project list were presented at a public hearing earlier that morning; the county engineer said the updated list will be posted on the county engineer’s page and that the county will work with state revenue officials for collection and distribution.
Next steps: the county will publish the revised project list and proceed with project planning and procurement under the funding framework established by the statute and the board's resolution.
