The council approved a street-closure request from MELC to host a spring fair on April 25 and agreed to a motion approving the town’s yearly street-closure requests.
Kayla Vandine, fundraising coordinator at MELC, told the council the event would run 10 a.m.–4 p.m., include about 54 vendors and several local food trucks, and asked to close Market Street from 7th to 9th Street for the day. Vandine emphasized the event is intended as a community fundraiser and that organizers are working with the street department to supply barricades and are coordinating with other downtown venues so Main Street need not be closed.
Council moved and seconded approval of the closure requests and took a voice vote; the motion passed. A representative from Manchester Life noted plans for related events and closures during the multi-day summer festival in July, and organizers said they would return to council with further details as plans develop.
The council’s vote allows MELC to proceed with event planning and logistical coordination with town departments.
