Three unopposed candidates declared elected; May 2 municipal election canceled

Bunker Hill Village — The City Council declared three unopposed candidates elected to council seats and canceled the May 2, 2026 General Municipal Election under Texas Election Code Section 2.053.
City Administrator Gerardo Barrera reported that only one filing occurred for each of Council Positions 1, 2 and 3 during the candidate application period and that no write-in candidate applications were received by the filing deadline. The Council adopted Ordinance No. 26-668 declaring Eric Thode elected to Council Position 1, Susan Schwartz elected to Council Position 2 and Carl Moerer elected to Council Position 3. The ordinance cancels the May 2 election for those contested positions. The candidates will take the oath and assume office at the May 19, 2026 City Council meeting.
The motion to adopt the ordinance carried 4-0 according to the meeting record. The Council cited Texas Election Code Section 2.053 in the ordinance as authorizing the declaration of unopposed candidates.
