The member also announced that Nicole Steward, identified in the meeting as the district's School Link Services coordinator, was honored at the Santa Clara County Behavioral Health Community Heroes Awards on Friday. "Our very own community hero, Nicole Steward," the board member said, and noted the board will recognize her at a future meeting.
School events across the district were highlighted as examples of student and family engagement. The board member said Burnett held an International Night that began at 5 p.m.; "all of the booths were out of their food by about 6:20," the member said, calling the event "phenomenal." At Milpitas High School Innovation Campus, a student-run carnival offered activities ranging from face painting to 3D printing, the board member said, emphasizing that students ran the event.
The district's Adult Workforce Development Program hosted a spring cultural fair where students shared presentations from Mexico, Honduras, Nicaragua and Vietnam, the board member reported.
The board member closed the update by inviting community members to attend end-of-year activities at district schools. The meeting then moved on to formal recognitions on the agenda.
