Council approves transfer to fund field-marking paint and evaluate painting robot

The council approved a fiscal-year transfer (an internal reallocation) to cover increased costs for field-marking paint and to allow purchase of a field-painting robot that staff said could cut paint use and labor roughly in half.
Public Works explained the transfer (about $7,245 in the line-item example cited) is part of a reorganization and would offset higher material costs while staff evaluate technology that automates line painting using GPS guidance. The director said the robot would reduce man hours for field layout and repainting, which could reduce future seasonal hiring.
The Chair moved to move the transfer forward for board-of-finance approval; the motion received a second and the council approved it. Staff will return with more information about the procurement and subscription costs for the robotic system.
