Public Works limits resident sand-and-salt withdrawals during storm season

Public Works told the Stafford Town Council that, due to high winter-storm demand and material constraints, the town will temporarily limit resident withdrawals from the transfer-station sand/salt bin to 2 cubic yards per day (signed as one bucket per resident).
The director said the program is a courtesy (not a mandated municipal service), that many surrounding municipalities have ended similar programs, and that the town has already used more than 1,000 cubic yards of material this winter. He described the policy as a rationing approach intended to ensure the town can keep primary roadways maintained and urged residents to be considerate of transfer-station staff.
Staff noted operational constraints (two employees at the transfer station, limited entry-control capability and stormwater-permit considerations) that prevent full supervision. Councilors supported the limit and asked staff to continue monitoring need and supply.
