DeKalb elections board certifies May 19 results, approves early-vote schedule for June 16 runoff

The DeKalb County Board of Registration and Elections unanimously voted to certify the May 19, 2026 election and approved a schedule of early-voting locations and hours for the June 16 primary runoff.
Deputy Director Henry presented the post-election report, saying the county had 495,076 registered voters and 174,491 ballots cast, for an overall turnout of 35.25 percent. Henry told the board that early voting accounted for roughly 87,000 ballots and thanked staff and county partners for their work in deploying poll workers and equipment.
Board member Travis Bowden moved to certify the May 19 election; the motion was seconded by Mr. Abrahman and carried on a voice vote. After motions to sign certification documents, the board recessed briefly to complete the required signatures and then reconvened.
The board reviewed proposed early-voting locations and noted one site, Living Grace Church in Tucker, had been removed because it did not meet space requirements. Members discussed whether to extend hours for the first day of early voting (Saturday, June 6). While some members said they were open to extending hours for a general runoff, the board agreed to keep Saturday’s hours at 9 a.m.–6 p.m. and to amend Sunday, June 7 to 12 p.m.–6 p.m. for the June 16 primary runoff. Ms. Loman moved to approve the early-voting locations and the amended times; Gail Lee seconded the motion and it passed by voice vote.
During the certification presentation a board member asked staff to clarify what a "cure" ballot is. Deputy Director Henry explained: "A cure ballot is a ballot in which a person has to come in and provide additional information, be it an ID or a signature. And once they have completed that, then that ballot is secured and it is counted."
The board also heard a registration update from Dr. Harris, who reported the office had 12,329 registration applications left to process as of May 22 and said staff typically process about 5,000 registrations per week; staff said the office expects to process eligible new registrants before the start of early voting when deadlines permit.
The board recessed into an executive session later in the meeting to discuss litigation and returned to conclude board comments and adjourn.
The board action means early voting for the June 16 runoff will open the week of June 6 (first day Saturday, June 6) with the amended Sunday hours; the board approved the locations and times it will publish for voters.
