Library and recreation present plan to install "Friendship Benches" at county community centers

Representatives from the Columbus-Lowndes Public Library System and Lowndes County Recreation asked the Lowndes County Board on Jan. 5 to support a program to place “Friendship Benches” at county community centers.
Wil'Lani A. Turner, circulation and career services coordinator at the Columbus-Lowndes Public Library System, and Jennifer Claybrook, director of Lowndes County Recreation, presented the concept and locations. Supervisor Leroy Brooks moved that the board support the installation; Supervisor Matt Furnari seconded the motion and the board voted 5-0 to approve spreading support on the minutes.
The board did not attach funding details in the meeting minutes; staff indicated the items would be coordinated through the library and recreation departments and installed at county community centers.
