Centre County Board of Elections approves minutes and posts primary canvass and audit schedule

The Centre County Board of Elections convened at 6:00 AM on May 19, 2026, and approved minutes from its May 7 meeting. Chair Commissioner Amber Concepcion opened the meeting and recorded attendance, including Commissioners Steven Dershem and Mark Higgins and Director of Elections Melanie Bailey.
On a motion by Commissioner Steven Dershem, seconded by Commissioner Mark Higgins, the board voted unanimously to approve the May 7, 2026 meeting minutes. The board likewise voted unanimously to move into recess at 6:03 AM and later voted to reconvene on May 21, 2026, at 10:00 AM; the meeting was adjourned at 10:01 AM.
Director of Elections Melanie Bailey presented a tentative schedule and tasks for administering the primary election. The schedule posted in the meeting packet and announced publicly includes: May 21 and May 22 for adjudication and canvassing of absentee, mail-in, provisional and overseas ballots; May 26 for pre-certifying unofficial results; May 27 for a 2% statistical audit in Room G004 of the Community Services Building; May 28 for canvassing any overseas/military ballots and performing the first signing; and June 4 for final signing, SURE Portal signing, and certification of official results.
The board noted the schedule is tentative and may be adjusted as needed; staff listed livestream links for the May 21 and May 22 sessions. No public comments were received during the meeting. The board announced it will meet next on May 21, 2026, at 10:00 AM in the Community Services Building Café to begin canvass work.
