Willow Park drafters debate election timing and term transitions in home-rule charter

Commissioners then debated keeping municipal elections in May (the existing practice and typically nonpartisan) versus moving them to November where turnout is higher and costs are lower. One member argued November turnout would produce a broader electorate; others countered that November ballots can drown out local races and votes may be less informed. The group discussed partisan versus nonpartisan formats and agreed to table that question for further study.
No change was adopted tonight; Chair said she will incorporate edits and circulate the revised working draft for comment.
