The Board of Selectmen voted to appoint Regina Chatel to the Willington Housing Authority for a five-year term beginning the evening of May 4, 2026. Don Berg, chair of the Housing Authority, told the board the authority recommended the appointment and said members expect Chatel to "be an asset" to the board.
First Selectman Mike McCoo moved the appointment and the board approved by voice vote. The board read that the term would be effective immediately with the five-year expiration noted in the appointment letter to be provided.
At the same meeting the board reviewed an appointment to the Parks and Recreation Commission for Brian Smith (term listed May 4, 2026–May 5, 2029). Questions arose about term expirations and staggered terms established by ordinance for a related commission (noted in the discussion as a December 15 expiration date for terms). Because some roster entries on the town website showed expired terms and at least one existing member's expiration did not match the December 15 schedule, selectmen agreed to table Brian Smith's appointment until staff could align the terms and confirm the correct expiration dates.
No disciplinary action or rescission was taken on the Housing Authority appointment. For the Parks & Rec item, the board moved to table and asked staff to compare current members' terms against the ordinance before the next meeting.
