The chair presented a recommendation to adopt a single, model policy that would replace two existing policies on sexual discrimination and sexual harassment for students and staff. The subcommittee reviewed the draft May 11 but did not take final action.
A committee member said they favored the model because it "is very specific," and the chair explained the model contains the legal language and regulatory references the district needs. Members noted overlap between the student and personnel drafts and stressed that definitions and the procedural pathway (who handles investigations, when the board is informed) must be explicit. The chair said the regulations that accompany the model would outline the process, including the role of a Title IX coordinator.
One member asked whether the staff or the board would be informed during personnel investigations; the chair said she would check the model's language and report back. The subcommittee agreed members should review the model closely, compare it with the district's current drafts and await Arthur's feedback before recommending deletions or consolidation to the full board.
Next steps include a cleaning of the draft text and another subcommittee review; no vote was taken on adopting the consolidated policy.
