Willington selectmen set April 21 town meeting, approve call with budget corrections

The board set the Annual Town Meeting for Tuesday, April 21 at 7 p.m. at the Old Town Hall, 11 Common Road. "I will move that we approve that call with the corrections we made," Selectman Mike McCoo said before making the motion; another selectman seconded it and the motion passed unanimously.
The call the board read and corrected outlines separate yes-or-no referendum votes on the proposed general government and education budgets and lists procedural items including the town office building as the polling place and referendum voting hours. During the line-by-line reading the board identified and fixed several clerical items: a fiscal-year label, the placement of an applied fund balance entry, and a bottom-line figure for the net amount to be raised by taxation.
Among the figures read aloud were an estimated general government budget of $1,637,780, an estimated education budget of $10,501,957 and a total town budget of $22,561,563. The transcript shows an applied fund balance of $241,000; the board agreed that the applied fund balance should appear above the "to be raised by taxation" line and recorded the corrected net amount to be raised by taxation as $17,947,998.
Selectman Ralph raised the fund-balance placement during the reading, noting that the applied fund balance must be subtracted before the net tax figure is shown; McCoo agreed and the board made the clerical corrections. The board also clarified Capital Improvement Program year spans while reading the call, amending a fiscal-year reference to align with July 1, 2026June 30, 2027 fiscal years as appropriate.
McCoo noted that all three selectmen were in attendance and that there were no members of the public on the call. With the corrections entered into the record, the board voted to approve the corrected call. McCoo recorded that the motion passed unanimously. The special meeting adjourned at 12:26 p.m.
