The Gilford Budget Committee on Jan. 8 affirmed the town’s proposed 2026 operating budget of $22,086,386 and unanimously rescinded a $78,205 warrant article for police radio improvements.
Town Administrator Scott Dunn told the committee that the Board of Selectmen had reviewed the draft and chose not to change it, leaving the final proposed operating budget at $22,086,386. The committee then took a separate motion on the police radio item: Budget Committee member Gus Benavides moved to rescind the $78,205 police radio improvement warrant article on the grounds that the improvements were already covered in the 2025 budget; Valerie Chase seconded. The motion passed, 7-0.
The committee also handled school warrant business. Chair Joshua Ritson moved to accept school warrant articles two through seven as written; Gus Benavides seconded and the motion carried, 7-0. School Superintendent Kirk Beitler asked the committee to re-vote on those school warrants at the next meeting when additional members are present so the full committee’s support is recorded.
Members reviewed a budget sheet presented by Gunstock Acres Village Water District Commissioner Richard Haidul and agreed to delay a final vote on the water district budget pending the public hearing scheduled for Jan. 15, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. at Gilford High School.
Other business was nil; no members of the public spoke during the public input period. With no further business, Chair Joshua Ritson adjourned the meeting at 7:18 p.m.
