Several public commenters addressed the council on May 19. One commenter thanked Trackside and Dixie for providing food and coffee for the Chris Nicholson memorial garden dedication and thanked Chief Keifer, Sheriff Albert, former Smithsburg police officers and elected officials for attending and supporting the event.
A representative of the ad hoc 250th committee asked the council for permission to give away more than 100 leftover "Visit Smithsburg" water bottles (originally produced for the EDC) at the town’s 250th community days and the July 4 event at the Ag Center. The representative said vendors had priced the bottles far above the committee’s intended sale price and that they could not sell them; the committee requested permission to hand them out at the celebration and noted Hadley Farms donated 200 cinnamon rolls for the event. The council moved and approved allowing the committee to distribute the bottles and related small concessions.
The council did not specify further logistical conditions in the open-session record. The transcript refers to a motion by a council member and a second and records the vote as carried by voice.
