The Smithsburg mayor and council on May 19 introduced Ordinance No. 202603, the FY27 general sewer and water fund budgets, after brief staff updates and clarifications.
Staff said there were a few tweaks since the council last considered the proposal. Council members confirmed that Hotel/Motel restricted funds may be used for landscaping and benches tied to the Veterans Park reading-room project, and a $350 item originally for square decorations was moved into Hotel/Motel to be used for tree maintenance in the park. Council also agreed to reduce a $10,000 line for speed-camera building maintenance to $6,000. Staff clarified that a retirement item that appeared in FY25 was now accounted for within payroll and represented employee-withheld funds rather than a town expense.
A council member moved to introduce Ordinance No. 202603 for the fiscal year 2027 general sewer and water funds as distributed at the meeting; the motion was seconded and carried on a voice vote.
Next steps: the ordinance was introduced at the meeting; the transcript records introduction and passage of the motion to introduce the ordinance but does not record a final adoption vote or effective date. Any formal adoption or subsequent public hearing dates were not specified in the open-session record.
