Members of the Willington School Building Committee discussed engaging a marketing firm to assist with community outreach in advance of a possible referendum.
Committee member (S4) reported a phone exchange with the owner of Tall Timbers Marketing, who has worked with other Connecticut towns on outreach after failed referendums and produces materials such as surveys, Q&A mailers and flyers. Committee member (S4) said the firm “has come into situations like us” and reported the owner told the committee he has been successful in helping towns correct misinformation and drive public engagement.
Chair (S1) and committee members agreed the town should provide the marketing firm with prior materials and meeting records so the firm can draft a proposed scope and fee. Chair (S1) emphasized coordination with the owner’s project manager and the architectural-engineering team to avoid overlapping services or conflicting messaging.
Committee members asked that the marketing firm and AE/OPM teams be available for follow-up conversations; Chair (S1) asked Adam (committee lead on outreach) to gather materials and ask the firm to prepare a fee proposal for the committee to review the following week. No formal action was taken; members directed staff to collect materials and request a proposal.
