Willington committee recommends Tecton Architects for architectural and engineering services

The Willington School Building Committee on March 16 recommended the Board of Selectmen negotiate and enter into an agreement with Tecton Architects to provide architectural and engineering services for the school project and grant application.

Chair (S1) said the committee received six responses to its RFQ, interviewed the top four and reviewed fee proposals. "They came prepared and ready to speak and let us know how they could work with us and for us as partners on this project," Chair (S1) said of the interview teams. The chair reported the committee left the interviews with a clear sense of consensus for Tecton.

Committee member (S3) asked whether community engagement was included in Tecton’s fee proposal; Chair (S1) replied stakeholder engagement and community engagement were rolled into the proposed scope and that a named staff member at the firm would lead program development and outreach. Committee members emphasized continuing coordination with the owner’s project manager and the architectural-engineering team to avoid overlapping messages.

Chair (S1) moved that the committee recommend the Board of Selectmen negotiate an agreement with Tecton Architects; the motion was seconded and the committee recorded a unanimous recommendation in roll-call. The recommendation covers services through the grant application stage; any additional work after a referendum would be addressed through contract negotiation or amendment in line with professional guidance from the OPM.
