Willow Park commission schedules Oct. 16 town hall, opts for presentation-style outreach over detailed survey

The Willow Park Charter Commission announced a town-hall meeting for Oct. 16 at 6:30 p.m. at Willow Park Baptist Church, aiming to present the commission’s draft charter language and collect public feedback. Chair (speaker S2) reviewed the night’s agenda and said staff will post updated draft text online ahead of the meeting.

Commissioners debated whether to use a short outreach survey to prime interest. Commissioner S1 (Mr. Hodges) cautioned against asking technical or 'in-the-weeds' questions in a brief public survey, saying such items could 'stick out like a sore thumb' and risk drawing responses from people who have not followed the commission’s work. Commissioner S5 urged using two or three slides at the town hall to present what the commission has already drafted and then solicit reactions from attendees: 'here’s what we’ve accomplished thus far, and here are the components that the group has worked through and the draft recommendations thus far,' S5 said, arguing that concrete slides would focus discussion.

The commission agreed to focus outreach on notifying residents of the meeting and presenting the draft language rather than letting a short survey dictate policy choices. Chair S2 said the commission will document questions raised at the event and publish answers at a subsequent meeting; a follow-up town hall is planned after the commission completes a revised charter draft.

Next steps: staff will update and post the charter draft online in its current state of progress and notify commissioners when it is available; the Oct. 16 session is intended for information-gathering, not final votes on charter text.
