The Winfield City Council approved multiple personnel actions during its May 7 meeting, hiring a utilities clerk and two part-time library staff ahead of the summer season.
Staff told the council two utility-office positions had been vacant since retirements in February and recommended hiring Haley Gomes Cole for the utilities clerk role. The clerk recommendation followed interviews of three candidates. After discussion and motions, council members voted to hire Haley Gomes Cole at the position’s established pay scale and confirmed the hire would include the standard probationary period.
The library director reported more than 50 applications for two part-time desk positions, with 15 candidates interviewed. The director recommended hiring Ginger Crow and Brayden Butler at a $9-per-hour start for the part-time roles; council moved and approved both hires. The director thanked department staff and other city departments who assisted with the library renovation and noted patrons have responded positively.
Council members asked procedural questions about the interview process and emphasized reliance on office recommendations when staff and immediate supervisors will work closely with the new hires. Salary placement was confirmed to follow the established pay scale for each position.
