The Willington Board of Education voted on a set of operational items Tuesday, approving a calendar change to address an unplanned school closure, authorizing a one-year administrators’ insurance-waiver memorandum of understanding (MOU) to save near-term insurance costs, and approving a proposed schedule for Hall School for 2026–27.
The board approved a motion to reduce Center School’s 2025–26 student year from 182 days to 181 days after Superintendent (S2) said a windstorm on March 17 forced a closure and she recommended not scheduling a makeup day in June. The superintendent proposed teachers and staff log the contractual hours required to reach 188 contract days; she said the adjustment would be handled equitably between the two elementary schools and include tracking by principals. A board member moved the calendar change and the board approved it by roll call.
The board also approved an MOU to increase the administrator family-insurance waiver stipend to $5,000 for the 2026–27 school year. Superintendent (S2) said she had polled bargaining units and found limited interest at some levels but that three administrators were willing to accept the waiver arrangement; she estimated the district would save roughly $40,000 in the coming year. The board voted to adopt the MOU by roll call.
Separately, the board approved the proposed Hall School schedule (PreK–8 model) for 2026–27 and agreed to track benchmarks and return metrics on implementation after several months.
Finally, the board approved routine minutes (March 10, March 17 and March 30 meetings); the minutes motion was approved with one recorded abstention noted in the roll call.
What the board recorded: approvals were made by roll-call votes; the superintendent described steps staff will take to document teacher hours and track implementation outcomes for the Hall schedule. The board asked staff to present follow-up data on schedule performance and to coordinate with the SBC on any budgetary impacts.
The meeting closed after general board comments and public remarks.
