Murray said outreach this year has improved because staff members Denny and Rob have been working to let people know about the program, and emphasized that the program can offer an alternative to code enforcement by letting residents apply for assistance rather than receiving immediate violations.
A council member asked whether the council should suspend further readings; the council moved to suspend the second and third readings, declared an emergency and adopted the ordinance by voice vote. No audience member raised objections during the meeting. The administration did not provide specific dollar amounts or eligibility counts during the discussion.
Council members asked staff to continue outreach so residents are aware of program availability; staff said they will continue notification efforts.
