Madison County Board approves SRO MOU, leases, salary schedule and personnel appointments

The Madison County Board of Education approved a package of routine administrative items and personnel actions at its May 14 meeting, including a school resource officer memorandum of understanding, several facility agreements and a revised salary schedule.

A board member recommended approval of the 2026–2027 Madison County Sheriff's Officers SRO MOU "as submitted," a motion and second were recorded, and the board approved the item by voice vote. Members offered public thanks to local law enforcement: one board member said it was "thanks to Sheriff Turner and the partnership we have with the Madison County school system" that certain safety work could be done.

Other items the board approved by voice vote included a cell-tower lease at Buckhorn High School, a sewer service agreement for Riverton Elementary School, the revised MCSS salary schedule, the March 2026 financial statements and payments, a budget amendment, a local school loan, and contracts for services. Trustees also approved personnel items in the addendum and supplemental contracts.

Immediately after approving personnel items, the board announced retirements and new appointments: Ms. Mary Sump will retire as Director of Special Education and Ms. Tasha Knight was named Director of Special Education; the director of transportation, Mr. Spears, is retiring and Mr. Barry Haynes was presented as the new Director of Transportation; Counts' career tech administrator position was filled by April McCutcheon; and Jennifer Taylor was introduced as the new principal at Mount Carmel Elementary School.

The public portion of the meeting paused for photos; board members then recessed into executive session to address items not discussed on the public record.

The board took the approvals by voice vote and did not record roll-call tallies in the public transcript for these items.
