The Vestavia Hills Board of Education approved recommended textbooks for new and expanding high-school course offerings, including AP Seminar, AP Business and Personal Finance and a new AI course. A board member explained that teachers selected candidate materials and a textbook committee of parents and teachers conducted the final review prior to the board vote.
"These were new courses that are being offered at the high school this year... those teachers who teach or will be teaching these courses look at several different options," a curriculum representative said, describing the committee process.
Separately, the board approved a bid of $198,606 to CT General Contractors LLC for locker-room and bathroom improvements at the district softball facility. The superintendent said the project is funded through the district’s shared-spaces partnership with the city and that additional facility projects will be brought forward in the fall.
Board members asked about timing; the superintendent said work is expected to start soon and be completed in time for the season. The bid was approved by voice vote.
