Gordon, the district’s chief school financial officer, told the Vestavia Hills Board of Education that as of April 30 the district had collected 94.4% of its budgeted equalized tax revenues, compared with 95.2% at the same time last year. He said the district earned $130,117 in interest income in April and that general fund expenditures and transfers are 61.3% of the budget, compared with 64.2% last year.
"All bank accounts have been reconciled as of April 30, 2026, and the monthly financial reports have been submitted to the Alabama Department of Education," Gordon said during his report. Board members moved and seconded approval of the April financial statement and carried the motion by voice vote.
Later in the meeting the board approved the district’s 2026–27 salary schedule, which the superintendent described as reflecting a 2% across-the-board increase required by the state. The superintendent noted a consolidation of director schedules into a single directors’ pay schedule and described the bachelor/master/EDS/doctorate salary steps used in the schedule.
Board members also approved routine consent items tied to textbooks and approved personnel items; speakers noted an ongoing wave of retirements and the district’s plan to recruit replacement teachers.
