Tuscumbia, Ala. — The Colbert County Board of Education unanimously approved a large personnel package and summer program staffing during its April 16, 2026, meeting at the district central office.
Superintendent Nathan Fuller recommended the personnel slate, which the board approved by voice vote after motions from board members. The actions recorded include multiple resignations and retirements (including Deana Crowell; Bryan Dolan; Tamela Mansell; and James Lockett), a series of new hires and pending hires for the 2026–27 school year (assistant principals, elementary and secondary teachers, coaches and support staff), voluntary transfers and leave requests, and principal contracts for Brandon Archer at Colbert Heights Elementary School (effective July 1, 2026–June 30, 2029) and Meredith McClanahan at Leighton Elementary School (July 1, 2026–June 30, 2027).
The board also approved staffing and salary rates for the district’s 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) and Literacy/Math summer program at four elementary sites (Colbert Heights, Hatton, Leighton and Cherokee). Approved pay rates are: Site Lead $35.00 per hour; Certified Teacher $30.00 per hour; Non‑Certified Teacher $25.00 per hour; Teacher Aide (age 18 and up) $18.00 per hour. The summer program is scheduled Monday–Thursday, June 1–June 25, 7:30 a.m.–2:00 p.m., and requires a staff‑to‑student ratio of 1 to 12. Superintendent Fuller said staffing and benefits will be funded by the 21st CCLC grant and Title I funds.
The personnel package was moved and seconded by board members and approved unanimously. Board President Jarrod Johnson called the meeting to order; David Yarber moved to approve the agenda earlier in the meeting, and motions approving personnel and summer staffing were recorded under board procedure. The board scheduled monthly financials for March 2026 to appear on the May agenda as information.
What happens next: the approved hires, transfers and contracts list include effective and start dates that range from immediate spring dates through August 2026; the district will implement the summer program staffing and begin the program on June 1, 2026.
