Board approves petition to set special election for Commonwealth's Attorney, adopts employee bonus and schedules ordinance hearing

At its May 26 meeting, the Montgomery County Board of Supervisors approved several routine but time-sensitive items in new business by roll call votes.
The board authorized a resolution directing staff to petition the court to set a special election to fill the county Commonwealth’s Attorney seat after the incumbent gave notice she plans to retire effective Aug. 1. The County Attorney told the board the petition will be filed so the special election can coincide with the November general election.
The board also approved a one-time FY27 bonus tied to a state-approved 2% bonus for locally supported state employees. County Administrator Angie Hill explained the county historically matches the state amount for non-state employees to preserve uniformity. She said the bonus “does not cover Marty or me” and that seasonal part-time employees (e.g., lifeguards) are excluded; employees hired on or before June 9 who are not on disciplinary probation are eligible. The motion to approve the bonus passed by roll call.
The board scheduled a public hearing on a proposed ordinance to amend Chapter 8 (Planning and Development), Article III (Erosion and Stormwater Management) to adopt state-updated fees set by DEQ; staff said most fee increases are set by the state and a majority of collected fees are transferred to the state.
The board also approved a resolution recognizing National Men’s Health Week (June 15–21, 2026).
All four new-business measures were carried by roll call with seven ayes recorded where the clerk announced the votes.
