At its May 19 meeting the Brooke County Commission unanimously approved routine business items and several personnel actions.
Commissioner Stacey Wise moved to approve the May 14, 2026 minutes; Commissioner Christina J. White seconded and the motion passed unanimously. The Commission also unanimously approved the open invoices presented at the meeting.
The Commission appointed Eric Fithian to serve temporarily on the BHJ‑MPC Executive Committee representing the Brooke County Commission. The appointment was made by motion of Commissioner Wise, seconded by Commissioner White, and the minutes state the temporary appointment will be revisited after the November election.
At the 911 Director's request, the Commission approved hiring Marissa Ferguson as a full‑time dispatcher and Wesley Ostroff as a part‑time dispatcher with a start date of June 1, 2026, pending background checks and drug screening. Commissioner Wise moved the hire; Commissioner White seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
The Commission approved an in‑house budget transfer of $520 for the Tax Office. Monthly animal shelter reports for March and April 2026 were received and filed. The minutes also record compliance department updates, a two‑week application window for a workforce board reappointment, listings of several job openings, and a notice the Courthouse will be closed May 25 for Memorial Day. Invoices and vouchers across multiple funds were approved and checks ordered written as listed in the minutes. The meeting adjourned by unanimous motion.
