Commissioners request joint training on avigation easements after meeting with McCall Aviation

A commissioner briefed the board about meeting with McCall Aviation and urged the Valley County commissioners to better understand avigation (navigation) easements and how they can affect airport approaches and grant eligibility.
The presenter said trees and subdivisions near approach paths can create long-term issues for airports and potentially affect federal or state grant funding tied to avigation protections. "Anytime that something blocks that approach, it may change their ability to get grant funding," the presenter said, adding the FAA could cite missing avigation easements as a problem for future funding.
The chair recommended a joint training session that would include county planning and zoning staff and McCall Aviation so commissioners and volunteer PNZ members could hear the material together or watch online. Commissioners agreed that a joint presentation before or after one of their regular meetings would help align understanding across the county and reduce the risk that future approvals inadvertently interfere with airport approaches or grant eligibility.
Staff was asked to coordinate scheduling and present options for a joint training.
