County staff seek approval of three design amendments to Bear Creek water treatment upgrade

County staff on Tuesday presented three design amendments to the Bear Creek water treatment plant upgrade and recommended that the Board of Commissioners approve the changes and the associated budget amendments.
Adam, a county staff member presenting the item, said Amendment 3 covers design of a third solids lagoon and evaluation of variable-frequency-drive (VFD) alternatives to improve solids-handling capacity. Amendment 4 adds crossover piping between high-service pump stations to increase operational flexibility and redundancy among member systems. Amendment 5 updates pump-control strategy at the high-service pump station and evaluates revised VFD-related controls.
Adam said the total Oconee County share for the three amendments is $72,366.74 and that the request includes the necessary budget amendments to cover the contract amount for the life of the project. Commissioners had brief questions; staff said the item would be placed on the consent agenda for approval.
Next steps: staff will bring the item back for formal approval as part of the consent agenda at the next meeting.
