Lancaster County ad hoc administrator interview committee holds executive session on county administrator search

The Lancaster County Council ad hoc county administrator interview committee voted to enter an executive session to discuss a personnel matter related to the search for a county administrator and later reported that no motions or votes were taken during that closed session.

The chair opened the meeting, asked for a motion to approve the agenda, and after a motion attributed in the meeting to Mr. Louise and a second from Ms. McGriff the chair announced the agenda passed by a unanimous voice/vote.

The chair then introduced agenda item 4(a) and said, "I need a motion to go into executive session in regards to one item. The discussion of a personnel matter pursuant to South Carolina code of laws 30-4-70(a)(1) relative to the search for a county administrator." The chair also asked to invite representatives of the search firm to participate in the closed discussion.

A motion to enter executive session was made and identified in the meeting as moved by Mr. Luis and seconded by Mr. Neal; the chair called the vote and announced the committee entered executive session. When the committee moved to end the closed meeting, a motion to come out of executive session (identified in the meeting as moved by Ms. McGriff and seconded by Mr. Luis) was approved and the chair announced the committee was out of executive session.

For the record, a committee member stated: "The ad hoc county administrator and interview committee met in executive session in regards to one item ... No motions were made, no votes were taken." The committee then moved to adjourn and the meeting was closed.

The executive session was described in the meeting as a personnel matter under South Carolina law and concerned the county administrator search. The committee did not report any formal motions or votes resulting from the closed session; no further public action was taken at the meeting.
