Public Works promotes composting, announces free compost giveaway in Tracy

Destiny, a staff member with the City Public Works Department, urged Tracy residents to keep organics and recyclables out of the trash and highlighted services and events tied to Earth Day. “The Tracy Material Recovery Facility helps keep organic materials out of landfills by turning them into compost,” Destiny said.
The announcement explained that accepted organics include food scraps, yard trimmings and soiled paper, which residents are asked to place in their organics containers. Destiny also reminded residents that recyclables should be cleaned before being placed in recycling containers and said keeping these materials out of landfills “helps reduce greenhouse gases and protects our environment for future generations.”
The city is partnering with its Master Gardeners program to provide composting and sustainable gardening tips to residents. Destiny announced a free Compost Giveaway on May 15 and May 16 at the Tracy Material Recovery Facility, located at 30703 South MacArthur Drive. She also promoted a downtown Earth Day event on April 25 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for residents seeking additional resources and activities.
