Riverside County sheriff highlights traffic enforcement and DUI efforts in Temecula

Mark Regali of the Riverside County Sheriff's Department briefed the Temecula City Council on public-safety activity and traffic enforcement.
Regali said deputies handled 5,030 calls for service in February 2026. He reported 67 priority-one calls with an average response time of 4 minutes, 53 seconds; priority-two calls numbered 1,781 with an average response time of 10 minutes, 4 seconds. The sheriff’s traffic team — Regali said it comprises 17 employees, including two sergeants — issued 887 hazardous citations, 1,810 parking citations and a total of 1,995 citations in the snapshot shown for December through February. He added the team wrote 354 warnings and a commercial-enforcement deputy issued 60 citations in the month cited.
On impaired-driving enforcement, Regali reported 22 DUI arrests for the month and 44 year-to-date, with 276 DUI arrests in 2025. He described three OTS-funded special operations in February and said the department will continue checkpoints, roving enforcement and community "Know Your Limit" events in Old Town where patrons may check their approximate BAC on a voluntary basis.
Regali said the department is also deploying a deputy with specialized e-bike enforcement training to educate riders and parents at schools and homeowners' associations. "They have a lot of latitude" in enforcement and staff often opt to use warnings when education is more effective, he said.
Council thanked Regali for the report; there were no follow-up motions related to the presentation.
