County recognizes Berks County 4H; youths and educators describe outreach and school programs

The Berks County Commissioners recognized a delegation from Berks County 4H during the March 12 meeting and read a proclamation honoring 4H week.
Amy Bradford, representing Penn State Extension, thanked the county for its investment and noted the program's scale: two 4H educators in the county, 62 volunteers and outreach to more than 6,200 youth through clubs, school curriculum and summer camps. "We are reaching over 6,200 youth through 4H clubs and activities," Bradford said.
Several youths and volunteers spoke about their experiences. Wyatt Lahner of Mooresville described opportunities such as attending national events and contests; Kendra and Addison Dunn described leadership and camp experiences; a former member identified as Johnson described getting involved through the 4H dog club; and Jennifer, a 4H educator, said Berks County runs one of the state's largest embryology programs, presenting embryology lessons in many elementary schools.
Commissioners thanked the group for attending and for programming that reaches urban and rural students. The recognition was ceremonial; no board action resulted from the proclamation.
