Berkeley Heights Board of Education adjourns to executive session to discuss superintendent contract

The Chair told the public that "the minutes of the discussion of any of these items will be disclosed to the full public when matters have been determined and confidentiality is no longer applicable," and estimated the executive session would last "approximately" two hours. The Clerk conducted roll call before the motion, naming board members present as Bradford; Dr. Forager; Hyman; Jolly; Khanna; and Stanley and declaring a quorum.
The motion to enter executive session was approved by voice vote; the transcript records the Chair asking, "Can I have a motion to go to executive session?" and a subsequent voice vote, "All in favor voice vote I," after which the Chair said, "We're into executive session." The board briefly addressed technical connectivity as participants rejoined remote audio/Zoom connections before proceeding in private.
The board returned to public session later and the Chair asked for a motion to end executive session and return to public session. After a motion and second, the Chair announced "All in favor? Aye" and noted the time as "nine o'clock." When the board opened the floor for public comment, the Chair read the district's public-comment rules, including a limit of three minutes per speaker and a request that speakers state their name and town or school of attendance. The Chair then said the board would accept only in-room comments that night and, seeing no attendees in the room, "we will close the public session."
Following that announcement, a motion to adjourn was made and seconded and the meeting concluded. The board has indicated it will disclose minutes of the executive-session discussion when confidentiality no longer applies.
