Board hears progress on performing arts center, Glendale and Greer school projects

Landscaping and signage are in place with sod installed along Altamont, and the training room and athletic training furnishings have been ordered.
Mr. Haywood asked the board to approve Pope Construction of Statesboro as construction manager for the Greer Elementary renovation, describing a phased approach that would allow classrooms to remain in use while work proceeds and noting some state funding was secured. He said the project will be phased, with work continuing after the summer break to minimize disruption to staff and students.
He also requested approval of a $229,773.40 change order that reassigns site-clearing funds originally approved for phase one into phase two site development after delays obtaining the land disturbance (LDA) permit; Mr. Haywood said no additional funding is requested and the reclassification is an accounting clean-up to align purchase orders for the auditor.
Board members asked for a capacity analysis and confirmation on portable classroom inventory; Mr. Haywood said three elementary schools are currently using portables and that he would email capacity spreadsheets to the board. No final votes on construction contracts or the change order were recorded in the work session transcript.
