The Ascension Parish Personnel Committee on April 21 recommended several board appointments and reappointments to the full council, including forwarding Ray Milano’s nomination for the Tourism Commission.
Ray Milano introduced himself to the committee as “I'm Ray Milano, born and raised here in Ascension,” and said he is a 58-year-old lifelong resident and former tourism board member. Milano told members he is active in the chamber and Rotary and said he would support tourism efforts in Donaldsonville as the city grows and seeks industry and visitors. “I would certainly support, you know, tourism in Donaldsonville,” Milano said in response to a committee question about how he would help the city.
Committee members moved and seconded Milano’s nomination and the chair said the committee would send the nomination to the full council for final action. The committee did not take a final confirmation vote at the meeting.
The panel also handled two fire protection district reappointments. The chair named Gregory Walker for reappointment; a motion to reappoint Walker was made and seconded, and the committee agreed to forward that reappointment to the full council. The committee then named David LeBlanc for reappointment, and members similarly moved to send his nomination to the council.
The committee recommended one planning and zoning appointment: the chair introduced Mr. Cross Malangson, who was present for the meeting. A motion to approve Malangson’s appointment was made and seconded and the committee agreed to forward the nomination to the full council.
Throughout the meeting, members used the committee’s role to vet nominees and then refer them to the full council for final decisions. The committee adjourned after moving the nominations to the council.
What’s next: The nominated and reappointed individuals will appear on an upcoming full Ascension Parish Council agenda for final confirmation; the committee did not record final votes or confirmations at this meeting.
