School board recognizes Coach Eddie Shannon and honors staff award winners

Coach Eddie Shannon tribute: The board shared a video and spoke about Shannon’s service as a World War II veteran and more than three decades in education and coaching in Manatee County; speakers described him as a bridge builder during desegregation and a local leader whose legacy will endure.
Life Changer award for Omar Edwards: Annie Clark of National Life Group presented the Life Changer award and described the program’s national reach. "You will receive a $3,000 cash prize. Half of that will go to you and half will be donated to the school district of Manatee County," Clark said. Board members and staff read nomination comments showing Edwards’ community engagement and leadership. The board congratulated Edwards and the family for preserving the surprise.
Why it matters: Public recognition highlights employees’ community engagement, fosters morale and gives the board a chance to honor longstanding community figures. The board indicated it would display the award certificate and use the district portion of the prize to support district initiatives.
