Environmental health staff said county testing shows about 40% of tested homes have elevated radon, consistent with state risk maps, and described mitigation approaches (sub‑slab depressurization systems and crawl‑space sealing). Staff emphasized testing the lowest livable area of a home and said certified mitigators should perform follow‑up testing after mitigation to verify effectiveness.
Separately, the department’s communications manager, Jenny Constable, outlined a communications plan supported by recent CDC workforce funding that will support outreach campaigns, a website refresh and continued Aspen Daily News columns. Board members were invited to sign up for column topics and staff said they would provide talking points or help draft pieces for members who volunteer to write.
