Pitkin County Public Health’s Board of Health unanimously approved the department’s three‑year strategic plan for 2026–2028 on Jan. 15.
Jordana (the public health director) described the plan’s three pillars — cultivating an engaged and skilled workforce, establishing a data and quality infrastructure, and strengthening community engagement and transparency — and a values‑based decision‑making framework staff will use to evaluate policies and programs. Jordana told the board the plan was both aspirational and intended to be practical: where a deeper investment requires more staff or budget, staff will return to the Board of County Commissioners for approval of additional FTEs or funding.
Board members praised the plan but emphasized the need for guardrails to keep priorities realistically aligned with staffing and budget constraints. One commissioner noted the county’s growth and said the department must weigh cost, sustainability and potential new FTE requests.
The board moved and approved the plan and directed staff to deliver annual monitoring updates to the Board of Health at its January meetings and to provide follow‑up details on any recommended staffing requests.
