Council approved a set of community events and associated street closures. Staff said the city would pilot management of Live After Five this year and requested a special ABC permit and closures of Lisbon Street parks; the council approved the permit and closures.
Separately, the council approved closing Main to Wall on May 31 for a dining event. A council member asked whether the city could use concrete barricades for safety; staff said the city does not have concrete barricades but public works trucks will be positioned across intersections to block vehicle access and improve pedestrian safety.
The council also approved use of parking lots for a recurring Fresh Market on the courthouse parking lot on first and third Saturdays starting in May and running through September.
Council discussion focused on safety measures for large crowds and logistics for street closures. Staff said city crews will provide traffic control elements during the events.
