Lincoln Elementary recognized as School of the Month; principal highlights reading and attendance gains

Lincoln Elementary was presented as the board’s School of the Month, with the student chorus performing two songs led by the school’s music teacher.
"They are led by Mrs. Ashbrook, our tremendous music teacher," a district presenter told the board before students performed. Mrs. Ashbrook and the fourth- and fifth-grade chorus described recent community performances, after-school rehearsal logistics and student engagement; she said about 40 students participated in choir this year.
A Lincoln presenter reviewed the school success plan, citing Spring 2025 i-Ready reading results showing 74% of students are "early and on grade level" and contrasting that with Forward exam results showing 51% meeting expectations. The presenter said the school is setting a goal to raise the share of students in the green on i-Ready to about 77% and outlined tactics including peer-to-peer observations, targeted interventions, interactive writing and monthly teacher–student goal conferences.
On attendance, the presenter said Lincoln had about 10% chronic absenteeism at the end of last year and that the school is aiming for a roughly 2 percentage-point improvement by year-end, with strategies including monthly messaging, family outreach and school intervention team follow-up.
Board members praised staff and PTO involvement and asked clarifying questions about which grades take the Forward exam; the presenter confirmed third, fourth and fifth grades take the Forward. The board thanked students and staff before moving on to other agenda items.
