Berkeley County Public Utilities approves sewer assessment RFQ and GIS record-drawing conversion

The county’s Public Utilities Committee approved two procurement requests April 27: an RFQ to identify priorities for gravity sewer assessment and rehabilitation and an RFQ to convert backlog record drawings into the county’s GIS.
Staff said the county has roughly 800 miles of gravity sewer mains and plans to assess about 2% of the system annually; the gravity-sewer RFQ is intended to prioritize capital work by identifying where repairs will deliver the greatest benefit. The record-drawing-to-GIS RFQ was described as a response to a backlog of about 50 project record drawings that crews rely on for accurate locates; converting those documents into GIS reduces liability when work crews need to locate infrastructure.
Both motions carried on committee vote. Staff noted the importance of accurate as-built records to avoid utility-damage liability and to plan capital improvements efficiently.
