Corinthia Williams elected DAC chair; members fill four leadership posts

The District Advisory Council held in‑person nominations and elections for four leadership positions during its Oct. 9 meeting, and the membership selected representatives to fill the roles.

Corinthia Williams nominated herself for chair and, after a second, was declared elected. Mia Cooper nominated herself for vice chair and was elected following a second and a show‑of‑hands vote. Crystal Lopez was nominated and elected secretary. The parliamentarian contest was contested: two members were nominated and members present raised hands for each candidate; the chair announced Karina Myers won the parliamentarian seat with a recorded count of 10 votes to Dora Espinosa’s 6.

The Categorical Programs office reminded attendees that, according to DAC bylaw Section 4, only members who checked in and were physically present could participate in the nominations and election process; staff said no portion of the election would be completed virtually. That requirement shaped the in‑person procedure: nominees came to the podium, a second was requested and vote counts were taken by raised hands among those wearing badges or recorded as alternates.

Before the elections, the council also approved the minutes from the Sept. 11 meeting by motion, which was seconded and declared carried.

Newly elected leaders were invited to a leadership meeting the following week (Oct. 14) and staff encouraged other parents to consider leadership roles and to give contact details to the check‑in staff to be included in future leadership communications.

There were no contested policy votes attached to these leadership elections; the outcomes were procedural and the chair closed the election portion of the agenda by congratulating the winners.
