Berkeley County issues child-abuse prevention and public-safety telecommunications proclamations; honors 911 staff

Berkeley County Council issued two proclamations April 27 and recognized 911 center staff during committee meetings.
The county proclaimed April 2026 as Child Abuse Prevention Month, citing statewide and local Child Protective Services figures presented in the proclamation text and commending the partnerships among child-welfare professionals, law enforcement, health providers and community organizations. The Kay Phillips Child Advocacy Center’s client counts for 2025 were cited in the proclamation and in public remarks.
The council also proclaimed April 12–18, 2026 as National Public Safety Telecommunications Week in Berkeley County, noting that telecommunicators are a vital link for first responders. A 911 center representative said the center handles more than 330,000 calls annually and introduced staff and a soon-to-retire telecommunicator with 27 years of service.
Speakers thanked council for the proclamations and the county’s support for multiagency partnerships that provide forensic interviews and trauma services for child victims and support for emergency communications.
