Madera County’s Board of Supervisors on April 7 authorized the purchase of the Behavioral Health Services facility at 117 R Street in Madera for $1,738,000 plus customary closing costs. Assistant Behavioral Health Director Taylor McAdam told the board the purchase will be funded entirely through Mental Health Services Act (MHSA) funds and will not affect the county general fund.
The building, completed in 2006 and currently occupied by Behavioral Health programs including a children, youth and family recovery center and Hope House drop‑in services, would eliminate ongoing lease costs and provide space for program expansion, McAdam said.
Supervisor comments noted the importance of listing funding sources when presenting large purchase requests so the public understands where money comes from; McAdam and board members said the MHSA funding provides long‑term budget stability for the department.
The board approved the purchase by roll call vote, 4‑0. Staff will proceed to complete closing steps and implement the facility transition under Behavioral Health’s oversight.
